10 Super Foods to Improve Your Memory Naturally and Boost Your Brain Power

Our brains also regulate thousands of complex functions, usually without bothering the conscious us with the exact details, such as with circadian rhythm, hormone balance, breathing, unconscious activity, and blood flow.

So, Here are some foods that boosts your brain power and increase your memory.

1. Avocado

Avocados are a source of monounsaturated fats, omega 3, and omega 6 fatty acids. These increase blood flow to the brain, lower cholesterol, and aid in the absorption of antioxidants. Avocados also come with many antioxidants of their own, including vitamin E, which protect the body and the brain from free radical damage. They are also a good source of potassium and vitamin K, both protect the brain from the risk of stroke.

2. Beans and Legumes

Beans and legumes are excellent sources of complex carbohydrates. These complex carbohydrates are also mixed with fiber that slows absorption, giving us a steady supply of glucose for the brain without the risks of sugar spikes associated with many other sugar sources. Beans and legumes are also rich in folate, a B vitamin critical to brain function and essential omega fatty acids.

3. Blueberries

These berries are antioxidant powerhouses, protecting the brain from oxidative damage and stress that lead to premature aging, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. The flavonoids in blueberries also improve the communication between neurons, improving memory, learning, and all cognitive function, including reasoning, decision making, verbal comprehension, and numerical anility. Other dark berries are good for the brain too, like blackberry, açai, and goji berries.

4. Broccoli

Broccoli is a superfood for the whole body. It is rich in calcium, vitamin C, B vitamins, beta-carotene, iron, fiber, and vitamin K. These nutrients protect against free radicals, keep blood flowing well, and remove heavy metals that can damage the brain.

5. Dark Chocolate

The flavonols in chocolate improve blood vessel function, which in turn improves cognitive function and memory. Chocolate also improves mood, can ease pain, and is full of antioxidants.

6. Nuts

Nuts, especially Walnuts and Almonds, are extremely good for the brain and nervous system. They are great sources of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, vitamin B6, and vitamin E. Vitamin E has been shown to prevent many forms of dementia by protecting the brain from free radicals, and it improves brain power. Nuts contain some anti-nutrients, like phytic acid. Since we consume a relatively small amount of nuts, this isn’t a huge problem, but they are far healthier if you soak them overnight (about 8 hours) before eating them.

7. Red Cabbage

Red cabbage is full of polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant that benefits the brain and heart. Red cabbage also has glucosinolates, compounds that fight cancer.

8. Spinach

Spinach can prevent or delay dementia. The nutrients in spinach prevent damage to DNA, cancer cell growth, and tumor growth, but also slow the effects of aging on the brain. Spinach is also a good source of folate and vitamin E.

9. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a very powerful antioxidant that combats dementia and may improve mood balance too.

10. Whole Grains

Whole grains are rich in complex carbohydrates, fiber, and some omega 3 fatty acids that shield the heart and brain from damaging sugar spikes, cholesterol, blood clots, and more. Grains also contain  vitamin B that have an effect on blood flow to the brain and mood. Whole grains should be soaked, fermented, sprouted, or grown as microgreens to unlock all their nutritional power and minimize any anti-nutrients.

TROGA: A new form of YOGA

Developed by two Australians, Ben Lucas and Kate Kendall

Troga combines yoga and TRX - a form of resistance training using ropes and webbing as props. These suspension ropes are attached firmly to the ceilings and you perform strength training exercises using your own body weight as the base. Resistance training in itself is strenuous. When you combine it with yoga, it can turn out to be the best form of workout.

Troga has become one of the most popular forms of workout and has got an amazing number of practitioners in the West.

It is one of the many spinoffs of the yoga forms, which includes bike asana, spin yoga session and striking yoga poses on the treadmill.

Troga exerts full pressure on your abdominals, but doesn't affect your joints.

ADVANTAGE:

  • The main advantage of Troga is that you are supported by ropes. So, you can perform the most difficult of resistance training, including tricep curls, without the fear of hurting yourself. You also feel free to stretch harder when you move on to traditional yogasanas.

BEST FOR:

  • This is a great form of exercise for those who are in sports. Even beginners can benefit from it.

Approximately 70% of our body’s mass is made of water and according to a number of doctors, drinking a total of eight glasses of water a day fulfills the necessary requirement of this liquid our body demands.

Here are some advantages of drinking water that can surely help you in living a healthy life.....

1. Maintains body temperature

2. Safely Reduces Weight -  Drinking water regularly, suppresses your appetite to a great extent and limits your food  intake.

3. Maintain the elasticity and suppleness of the skin and prevents dryness by detoxifying the skin. Hence helps us to look younger.

4. Increases Energy & Relieves Fatigue

5. Flushes Out Toxins – Gets rid of waste through sweat and urination which reduces the risk of kidney stones and UTI’s (urinary tract infections).

6. Water helps to relieve headaches and back pain.

7. Regular intake of water increases your metabolic rate and improves your digestive system.

8.  Improves Skin Complexion – Moisturizes your skin, keeps it fresh, soft, glowing and smooth. Gets rid of wrinkles. It’s the best anti-aging treatment around!

9. Maintains Regularity - Improves digestion and prevents constipation.

10. Water, along with lemon or lemon juice is often used to overcome respiratory diseases, intestinal problems, rheumatism and arthritis.

11. Prevents Cramps & Sprains - Proper hydration helps keep joints lubricated and muscles more elastic so joint pain is less likely.

12. Helps to reduce stress

13. Boosts Immune System – A water guzzler is less likely to get sick. And who wouldn't rather feel healthy the majority of the time? Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu, cancer and other ailments like heart attacks.

14. Oxygenates Blood and Lungs

15. Drinking water first thing in the morning and before brushing makes your skin glow, renews cells, balances the lymph system, losses weight, purify the colon, cures illness and diseases, etc.

How much one should drink Water in the Morning for Best Results?

Drink 1.5 liters (5/6 glasses) of water immediately after waking up.
Avoid drinking or eating anything else for an hour before and after drinking the water.
Do not drink beverages that contain alcohol the previous night.
At first, you may have a hard time drinking 6 glasses of water at a go. However, it becomes easier as your body gradually becomes accustomed to the routine. When starting, you can slightly modify the routine as follows; consume 4 glasses of water, pause for about 2 minutes, then drink the remaining 2 glasses of water.

How much water should I drink?
At least 8-10 glasses a day. In summers you should have more.

Warm or cold?
Preferably water should be at room temperature. Try to avoid drinking cold water. Drinking luke warm water before bed and after waking up in morning is really good and beneficial.

Can I eat right away?
You should wait at least 15 minutes after drinking your water to eat.

But Remember drinking excessive amount of water can also lead to loss of sleep as people have to get up in the night to go to the toilet, and other studies show it can even cause kidney damage, instead of preventing it.
Taking on too much water can lead to a rare but potentially fatal condition called hyponatraemia, which sees the body’s salt levels drop and can lead to swelling of the brain.

So, just take a good amount of water a day so that you can live a healthy life.

So, if you haven’t already, go to the nearest water cooler and pour yourself a large glass of water; repeat this practice eight times a day for best results!
